What is the Canfit™ scanGogh II™ Optical Laser Scanner?

Vorum's scanGogh II™ scanner is a hand-held imaging system, used to record the external surface shape of the human body. It is a compact, portable system that is practical for practitioners on the go. It is also useful for multi-location offices that can benefit from a "shared" system. Patient's appointments for scan bookings can be scheduled to suit.

You need to upgrade your Flash Player to version 9 or newer.

The scanGogh II™ is a non-contact, optical measuring device. As you are scanning, the scanGogh II™ transmits measurement data to your computer and displays 3-dimensional shape data on your computer screen in real-time.

With the scanGogh II™ scanner, there is no tissue displacement. This is especially beneficial for patients who are particularly fleshy, as measuring or casting them directly may indent the skin and flesh and produce inaccurate results.

Tools

The scanGogh II™ includes a wand, a small transmitter, and an electronics unit. It works with Vorum's Canfit™ P&O Design software.

The Canfit™ scanGogh II™ scanner comes with:

  • A wand - a handheld device that emits a safe, low intensity laser which is read by one camera in the scanGogh II™ SL, and two cameras in the scanGogh II™ DL.
  • Transmitter - a small device that must be attached to the limb or body segment that is going to be scanned. The transmitter acts as a reference point.
  • Electronics Unit - receives the information from the scanGogh II™ wand during the scan, combines it with data from the transmitter, and sends the resulting information to the computer.

What else do I need to get started?

  • A suitable computer
  • Canfit™ P&O Design software

Set Up

The scanGogh II™ can be used in a small work space. You will need a computer with the appropriate technical specifications. Have the patient sit or stand comfortably and start scanning.

How does the Canfit™ scanGogh II™ scanner work?

  1. Turn on your scanner and computer, and start the scanGogh II™ software.
  2. Use the wand to scan your patient with a smooth, spray-painting motion.
  3. Follow the series of steps presented on your computer monitor as you scan your patient.

The wand projects a line of light onto the patient. Measurement data is automatically transmitted to the software program. The program allows you to accurately place as many landmarks you require. Adjustable settings in the scanGogh II™ software also allow you to determine level of detail vs. smoothing in the image capture. Because scanned measurements are saved instantly, you can edit your patient profile simply with the click of a mouse - much simpler and easier that traditional casting methods.

After you have completed your scan, your scanned patient image is displayed on your computer screen. Data from scanGogh II™ can be modified on the computer using the Canfit™ P&O design software.

For those clients who are not working in the P&O industry, a utility is available to convert scanGogh II™ surface data into other file formats (such as STL, XYZ, AOP, etc. - among others) to input to third party CAD programs.

What are the advantages of the scanGogh II™ scanner?

  • Fast - Measure 3-dimensional anatomical surfaces in one minute or less
  • Accurate - Accurate measurement data. Get consistent, reproducible results every time.
  • Non-Contact - Scans can be obtained without touching the patient.
  • Flexible Axis Geometry - Capable of scanning both cylindrical and more complex shapes; ideal for both prosthetics and orthotics applications.
  • Portable - Compact components fit in a rugged carrying case for the practitioner on the go.
  • Clean - No plaster.
